NAME: Alexis Lannon
CANON: Dominion (AU)
CANON POINT: post season one
CHARACTER AGE: 25
HISTORY: Wiki link for the series; Dominion wiki link for Alex.
Alexis' story begins back before she was born. At some point, for reasons known only to Him, God disappeared from Heaven. The archangel Gabriel decided it was because He was dissatisfied with how humanity was squandering the gifts He had given them, and led a charge to exterminate mankind from the Earth. The archangel Michael decided to oppose Gabriel and protect the humans. Their showdown occurred at a remote diner in the California desert, where one Charlie Lannon was pregnant with the baby who would become Alexis.
For the most part, the higher angels remained neutral in the war against humanity, but lower angels, possessing the bodies of humans, laid siege upon the diner while Michael and a handful of humans huddled inside. Michael's body was covered in mysterious tattoos meant for the Chosen One, a child who will appear and save mankind. Michael tells the humans that Charlie's baby is the Chosen One, and must be protected. After fighting and losing to Gabriel, the tattoos transfer to Jeep Hanson, who takes on the role of Charlie's protector and surrogate father to the newborn Alexis.
Cut to approximately twelve years later. Humanity, or what's left of it, has settled into a number of walled city states in the place of former cities in the American Southwest. La Jolla, California is now Helena, a feminist enclave with a (meager) air force. Las Vegas is now Vega, a city with budding nuclear power and a strict caste system. The archangel Michael has taken up his post as Vega's protector, living in the Stratosphere building where he can see over the entire city. Charlie has died in the war against the angels, and Jeep has taken over raising Alexis, who has no idea she is the Chosen One and is therefore living a mostly happy life, punctuated by terrifying angel attacks.
Knowing he must research and try to translate the tattoos, at Michael's insistence Jeep leaves Alexis in Vega, abandoning her with only a letter full of half-truths. Alexis is now an orphan and a V1, Vega's lowest caste. She can barely get enough food to eat or a safe place to sleep. In order to better her situation, Alexis joins Vega's army, eventually rising through the ranks to become a V2 and a sergeant in the Archangel Corps, a faction of the army led by Michael, who is secretly watching over Alexis. Michael appoints Noma, a higher angel secretly living in Vega, the task of becoming Alexis' friend. She does more, and becomes her on-again-off-again lover.
At some point, Alexis falls in love with Claire Reisen, daughter of General Reisen, Lord of the City. They plan on leaving Vega together with Bixby, an orphan V1 who Alexis cares for almost like a daughter, a plan that's abandoned when Claire becomes engaged to William Whele, son of Senator David Whele, in a political play orchestrated by Claire and William's fathers. William is also Prinicipate, head of the Church of Saviorism, which worships the promise of the Chosen One, though he is secretly a follower of Gabriel.
One day, when Alexis is 25, Jeep returns to Vega. A lot of things happen at once, resulting in Jeep's death and the transfer of the tattoos to Alexis, revealing her as the Chosen One. The only people present for this revelation are Alexis, Michael, Claire Reisen and her father, William Whele and his father, an envoy from Helena, Bixby, and a few technicians. David Whele eventually kills or has killed the technicians and later Bixby to keep the secret safe. Alexis, who previously didn't believe in a Chosen One, is forced to accept that she is it. Her stubborn nature makes that hard, but after a higher angel secretly working for Gabriel attacks her, Claire, and Bixby, Alexis accepts the responsibility (she thinks Bixby died from her wounds, not from David Whele's poison). She believes the best way to protect her loved ones is to leave Vega, so she does. Michael, though, intercepts her, taking her to her childhood home, where Alexis gets visions of Jeep trying to decipher the tattoos. Then, Alexis and Michael are attacked by some of Gabriel's angels and Michael is critically wounded. Alexis rushes him back to Vega but is arrested for desertion. She has herself put in solitary confinement rather than reveal the tattoos on a strip search, but Claire frees her.
Meanwhile, a Senator Frost hears mention that the Chosen One has arrived, and holds General Reisen and Senator Whele hostage, demanding the Chosen One show themselves or else he'll flood the city's food supplies. Alexis takes it upon herself to reveal herself to Frost, using a vision she had while in solitary to convince Frost she is the real Chosen One. Frost backs down, but Senator Whele shoots him to keep anyone else from learning about Alexis being the Chosen One.
After Michael is (mysteriously) healed and the mess with Senator Frost is over, Alexis agrees to train with Michael. They practice meditation and fighting, learning how to track angels' movements by their shadows. Later, an 8-ball (a lower angel possessing a human) is loose in Vega. Alexis finds it and instead of killing it, captures it and locks it in an abandoned casino vault because it turns out to be possessing the body of Claire's mother. Alexis gets the idea of trying to reunite Claire with her mother by evicting the angel from her body. Michael provides Alexis with the ancient prayer she needs. The eviction succeeds, but Claire's mother dies shortly after. Alexis and Michael then begin capturing 8-balls to practice evictions as part of Alexis' training, though none of the evicted bodies survive, the strain too much for them to handle.
Gabriel, meanwhile, is shown to be able to remotely possess the bodies of not only 8-balls, but higher angels as well. He infiltrates Vega by possessing a higher angel named Louis, and proceeds to go on a killing spree, stringing up other higher angels when they refuse to take Gabriel's side. Michael sends Alexis to warn Louis that higher angels are being targeted, not knowing that Louis is under Gabriel's control. Louis/Gabriel sows the seeds of doubt in Alexis by telling him of Michael's bloody past (the Great Flood in the bible? actually was Michael slaughtering thousands of humans). Alexis begins to feel uneasy about her relationship with Michael. Louis/Gabriel then summons Alexis to the Stratosphere, where he reveals Noma to be an angel by pushing her out a window (she flies away safely). Michael and Louis/Gabriel fight, then Alexis successfully evicts Gabriel from Louis' body.
Michael puts Louis under the care of Consul Becca Thorn, head of Vega's medicine and science division (and Michael's lover). She gives him her word that she'll look after him, but secretly performs experiments on him to find out his (and all angels') weaknesses. Alexis and Michael stage a falling out between them, and put into motion a plan to get close to Gabriel, using Noma's help. Unfortunately Gabriel sees through Noma's lies and instead goes to Vega, surrendering himself. They put him in an electrified cage and Claire, now Lady of the City, interrogates him. Gabriel reveals that he knows Claire is Alexis' lover. Later, Alexis confronts Gabriel against Claire's orders, and is about to stab Gabriel when the archangel threatens Claire's life. Alex storms off and runs to Claire, who insists that she and Alexis can't be together due to her Chosen One status. She reluctantly accepts this, but orders extra protection to be put on Claire anyway.
Meanwhile, Gabriel tells Michael about the experiments Becca has been performing on Louis, and Michael storms over to House Thorn, where he discovers the gruesome evidence and kills Louis to put him out of his misery. He is overcome with rage, killing Becca and several guards, before Alexis is able to make him come to his senses, at which point he flies away. Gabriel uses his Acolytes, or humans who are secretly loyal to him, to break out of his cage and follows the trail of bloodshed to House Thorn, where he tells Alexis that she can no longer trust Michael, and that she should turn to Gabriel for help translating the tattoos and ending the war. When Alexis refuses, Gabriel threatens to burn Vega to the ground and kill everyone Alexis loves, including Noma. After Gabriel leaves, Alexis writes Claire a letter much like the letter Jeep wrote her, and leaves Vega. She is last seen climbing the mountain to Gabriel's aerie in Boulder, Colorado.
AU DIFFERENCES:
Obviously the main difference between Alexis' history and Alex's is that Alexis is female. The history typed above is in line with Alex's history, save for the parts I've bolded (and the pronouns, obviously). In the original canon, Alex and Claire conceive a child, which is what Gabriel uses to threaten Alex with. Next, Alex confronts Claire about the child, and she says Alex can't be the one to raise their child due to his status as the Chosen One. Alex's letter before he leaves is written not to Claire, but to the unborn child thus drawing stronger parallels between it and Jeep's letter. Obviously, Claire and Alexis can't conceive, so I've eliminated the pregnancy altogether. (I thought about changing Claire's gender as well and making Alexis the pregnant one, but didn't think a male Claire would be able to publicly marry so religious a figure as William.) In the end, I think this makes for the most streamlined AU, and will make interactions with any canon Dominion players easier (seeing as Alex/Alexis is the only one who is different, she will be able to recognize any potential canonmates).
PERSONALITY:
Alexis is stubborn first and foremost. She has plans (like leaving Vega with Claire and Bixby) that she wants strongly to go her way, and will resist any attempts to prevent them from doing so. When things don't work out the way she wants, she is a bit childish in her response, choosing to run away from her problems (and her status as the Chosen One), until she is shown that that isn't a viable option. Once she finally accepts her place as the Chosen One, she throws herself into her training with the same stubborn fervor that she faces everything else with. She insists that she can evict angels, even though in practice, she's not always that good at it (resulting in the host body dying or being shot out of frustration before the eviction can take hold). She doesn't have the patience for meditation, but she tries anyway. By the end of the season, she has grown a lot in both her ability to fight angels and her ability to take direction.
Alexis needs guidance, though she is reluctant to admit it. As a child, her mentor was Jeep, her surrogate father. Once Jeep left, she felt utterly betrayed, and did everything in her power to become self sufficient. And she succeeded too, in terms of fending for herself among Vega's lowest castes and joining the army to raise her status and gain more opportunities. But once she is revealed to be the Chosen One, she finds herself needing to rely on someone again. This time her mentor is Michael, which works out about as well as it can with their stubborn personalities clashing as often as they do, until Michael's more violent side is revealed. At that point, she has no choice but to turn to Gabriel, her most hated enemy, for guidance. We don't see how that works out (yet— season two is currently filming!), but I imagine it will go about as well as things did with Michael.
Alexis is also a loving, caring, protective person. She cares very strongly about her lovers and her friends, most notably Claire, Noma, Bixby, and Ethan (a squadmate who has known Alexis since they were kids). She blames herself for Bixby's death, and for the danger Claire faces for being her lover. She's uncomfortable about Noma putting herself in danger for her sake, but accepts Noma's decision to do so. She can be jealous, as seen by her reaction to learning about Noma's romantic history with Furiad, one of Gabriel's lieutenants, and by her frustration at Claire and William's arranged marriage. At one point shortly after the announcement of Claire and William's soon-to-be nuptials, as well as the revelation that she is the Chosen One, Alexis gets drunk and goes to see Claire, insisting that they run away there and then. Of course, Claire refuses. Alexis, however frustrated, would never do anything to hurt Claire, so she backs down. Alexis also feels guilt over Bixby's death, as she had felt a very motherly connection to the girl, seeing a lot of herself in Bixby. Bixby dying is one of the turning points that makes Alexis throw herself into her Chosen One training.
If there is any difference between Alexis' personality and Alex's personality, it is perhaps that Alexis would be even more stubborn, having had to prove herself not only as a soldier and the Chosen One, but as a girl on top of that. She wants people to see her as a strong individual and a force to be reckoned with, not as a little girl who needs protecting. Additionally, though she is only shown to have relationships with females, I don't believe Alexis is lesbian, but instead that she is bisexual. Her relationship with Ethan likely would have gotten, if not romantic, then at least sexual, at some point. She doesn't believe in having any hangups about things like gender or social position. If she cares for someone, she does so deeply, regardless of who they happen to be.
ABILITIES:
Clairvoyance/Premonition: Alexis' tattoos sometimes send her messages, either when she tries to read them or when she is dreaming/meditating. The messages are things like "Beware those closest to you," or "She died for you," or are sometimes visions of people she knows (like Jeep). Sometimes she thinks the message means one thing but it's later revealed to mean something else. This ability likely won't come up in game, and if it does, it won't be world-breaking (and I would get OOC permission before having any premonitions about another player character).
Evictions: Being the Chosen One, Alexis can perform evictions, or exorcisms for angels, basically. Using a specific prayer, which she has memorized, she can force an angel out of the body it is possessing. This works both on lower angels ("8-balls") possessing human bodies and higher angels who are being possessed by an archangel. This ability likely won't come up in-game (unless Gabriel is there being a dick).
Combat Training: Alexis is trained in the use of guns, knives, and swords. She's specifically learned how to fight angels, meaning she has to be extra quick and extra strong.
SINS & VIRTUES:
Of the sins, the ones that most apply to Alexis are: Lust (she has romantic and sexual relationships with both Claire and Noma), Wrath (she can give into her anger, making it difficult to meditate or keep a calm head), and Envy (she gets jealous of Noma and Furiad or Claire and William). Of the virtues, the ones that most apply are: Charity (her willingness to sacrifice herself for the good of others, be they specific individuals like Claire or Bixby, or the whole of Vega/mankind), Kindness (the way she cares so deeply about her loved ones), and Humility (she doesn't have a big head about being the Chosen One; she'd rather just be a regular soldier).
If I had to list the sins/virtues in order of their weight, it would be:
